Can you recommend some killer children's lit illustrations?

Question:I'm doing a book/reading theme for my nursery and would like to put illustrations from children's books up as art. I'd love some input from other people as to what would be some good books to look at. They don't necessarily have to be illustrations or stories about books/reading, but they do have to look cool. I'd also like them to incorporate creativity and imagination. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Answers:
After almost 40 years I still think the illustrations from "Where the Wild Things Are" (Maurice Sendak) are masterpieces. On a lighter and more natural note, check out "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey. Also, of course, "Animalia" by Graeme Base. Good luck!
I like the illustrations from Kevin Henkes books.
Here are a couple of websites with wonderful illustrations from older children's books.

Have a great time!
I love George and Martha - the way James Marshall draws their eyes are wonderful!
I would suggest illustrations by Nicole Tadgell. One book she illustrated is Fatuma's New Cloth By Leslie Bulion. Even some illustrations by Chris Van Allsburg (The Polar Express).
How about some from books like Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Rumphius by Barbara Cooney, or anything by Eric Carle. http://www.eric-carle.com/
try the illustrations of beatrix potter, any thing by eric carle, maurice sendak, tana hoban, and ck with your local library for illustrations of reading time or other author/book posters they may have left over.
All of the other suggestions are fabulous. I'd definitely put some Dr. Seuss characters up, too. Books by P.D. Eastman are also so wonderful (Are You My Mother? is one). Other great enduring characters are The Rainbow Fish, the rabbits from Goodnight Moon, Mother Goose, Curious George, and Frog and Toad.
Congratulations!!
