I went on a few interviews for teaching a few weeks ago & have not heard anything back. Should I call them?

Question:Does calling them back look desperate & unprofessional or is it thought of as an ok thing to do?

Answers:
A few weeks ago?!?

To get a teaching job is a three step process:
1. Getting the interview
2. Acing the interview
3. The post-interview follow-up

You are missing out on 1/3 of the process. The very next day after the interview you should send each member of the interview committee a hand-written "thank you" and make sure to mention something specific about YOUR interview.

Follow that up two days later with an email and then again a couple days after that with a phone call...never wait a few weeks to follow-up after an interview...the job may already be gone.

Don't worry about looking desperate...you won't...you'll look like an eager go-getter!

Definitely, call them all back. It's expected.
No, I don't think it will help. If you haven't heard from them in 2 weeks, that means they're not really interested. If they were interested, or still are, they will contact you. If not, it's normal not to hear anything from them. They get so many applications, in general, most do not write back if the answer is negative. Move on, but don't get discouraged.
I would also say don't call them back --- it does seem desperate. They may have liked you but liked someone else better --- also if they did like you they often pass your resume on to others. I sent out 50 resumes and filled out applications on line --- got 11 interviews - got one phone call telling me that I didn't get the job and one letter --- these principals aren't very savy on the etiquette of telling someone "sorry", then three days before school began I got five job offers. Don't give up hope - if it was meant for you to get a job you will. Good luck.
It doesn't hurt to call back. Just mention that were just following up from your interview on 'such and such a date'. For future reference, send thank you cards to everyone who interviews you...thank them for their time and mention that you look forward to hearing from them. Also mention something that you really enjoyed about the school. It sounds like sucking up in a way, but it will help you stand out if there is a lot of competition or if it is between you and another candidate.
Definitely call. You want to remind them that you want the job. Some people just try to get in practice interviews, or interview for teaching but its their last choice for a job.

Ask to know when they will be making a decision, or if you are at least on their hiring short list.

I got a job years ago because I called back every week for a month. They had not found anyone else better qualified in that time, I was interested, so decided to hire me. They had been looking for two years.
