It is a horrible plan that was enacted improperly to boot. I have a friend who is a 5th grade teacher at a magnet school in a hispanic district. Many of his students just arrived in this country and can't speak the language much less pass a reading comprehension test. Because they fail, the school loses funding and the money gets put into busing students to other schools that don't have ESL teachers so both schools lose.
My niece is effectively illiterate, yet she is passing right on through. Do you know why? Because she'd bring down their testing scores, so no children are left behind. Not even the ones who should be.
Every idea that clown has had has beena joke. Every initiative has been a flop. Every campaign promise, broken.
I wish we could just boot him out. No. I think GW's policy is no Republican left behind. Yes, I would care very much! The theory of no child left behind is ok, but it doesn't work if there is no money to fund it. It's worthless. It acutally causes teachers to cheat and teach less. If your pay was based on how your kids did on their standardized test wouldn't you cheat? Yes, I would care if those subjects disappeared...not so much home economics, but the arts are important. Studies show that music helps kids understand math, and spacial relation type problems. I think Bush has a good thing started, now it just needs to be followed up on. He cannot do this himself...think of all of the schools in all of the states.this needs to be up to state and local governments.. and schools that cheat should get rid of the teachers that do...that is not their point. i don't like his policy. kids r going to stop studying cause even if they get horrible grades they will pass. its ridicules. Ok--you're additional info screwed this up.
NCLB sucks...it's bogus and a front for the religious right to get money and mainstream acceptance for homeschooling.
Art, music, home ec, shop and theatre WILL suffer if Bushie's NCLB is allowed to continue. I understand where he is getting this "no child left behind" but every child receives a fair chance to succeed in school. It's just whether they want to or not. You can't punish the kids that want to learn because the ones that don't want to, are keeping the classes behind. YES I WOULD CARE! Bush is an idiot I love art and music and the fun stuff we get to do at school. I think it's really stupid! King Bush used that policy to put Kennedy in his proper place and show him who was running things. That was Senator Kennedy's pet bill.He fired up Congress to get it passed.Under pressure King Bush signed it into law. Then before it ever really got off the ground.King Bush found a way to route the money elsewhere.Leaving whole program behind. There at this moment is no policy.Except the provisions that were written in later.
We need the arts in schools now more than ever. its a false program he instated in order to give him self the spotlight and make people think he actually cares about kids when in actuality, in my state of massachusetts the physical education program has been cut to a crazy amount, and if ya think about it, sure we can read and do a crap load of math problems but really were left behind cause were too fat to even walk down the street, so please mr. bush tell me how do you feel when all of your country is over weight and gunna die by the age of 30? god bless america ladies and gentlemen, but just remember you can read. yay!
