It really depends on the age group you teach, but with University level, you may want to try interaction games, role playing, flash cards, and song lyrics; all have been successful in my teaching English to Korean students. Keeping their attention is key, as I am sure you are aware. Having them apply for "jobs" using English skills is useful not only for English, but for learning how to communicate to potential employers.
Well I have some ideas, I may become a Tefl Teacher but we will see anyway: you could play a slow song specially selected by you for its use of english. Then get the students to remember & study the lyrics.
How about a hand-out sheet with blanks for some of the words?
play a sport where only english is allowed for communicating. using any other language is a penalty.
