I am going to retire from my teaching job in 2 years would it be worth my while going on supply for a year?

Guess it depends upon your subject. It will also depend in what type of socio/economic backgrounds the schools are in.

Supply teaching makes you a target for kids disruptive behaviour. If you are only there for a day or 2, then as it was said to me "you are fair game..." Pupils feel they can try you out and as you are only going to be there for a period or 2 then they can do what they like, as there will be no sanctions/punishment as you won't be back.

It one town I worked in, the kids thought it was fair game, not only to hurl abuse at you in the school but it was good sport to shout at you when you went to the shops etc... This was not reserved to supply teachers, probabtioners got it as well.

The money is not guaranteed and when it comes to holidays, exam times and so on you suffer financially. Therefore if you have monthly expenditure such as loans, rent, council tax and so on - you can't guarantee enough income.

So, no, I woudn't recommend it...

However, there are some people who think that being a bum on a seat and taking the money, with no admin/marking/prep/parents evenings think it is ok.
A friend of mine used to do supply teaching, apparently it`s very good money so i`m sure it would be worth it.
don't understand the question -- rephrase please
Why not ask your union ? If your question refers to the financial aspect, they will know.
Probably if you will be happy.
But check your tax and pensions situations.
The most important thing , at this point in your life is what YOU want to do!
2 years
You can retire now, freeze your pension until you are 65, or take it now, and do supply work. That way you can also go away on holiday during May, June, september etc. Work only when you want to, and where you want to.
I took early retirement, nothing would convince me to go into supply work, or anything to do with schools! But each to their own.
