The sad but memorable ones like The Crook Little Christmas Tree, The Giving Tree, The Balloon Tree (whoa, lots of tree there xD), Ira Sleeps Over, Love You Always Forever. If you can go back when you're older and see it with new eyes but still enjoy it (instead of feeling like "what was I thinking (when I read that or thought it was gold)?"), I say it's a classic and has a special place in at least my heart.

I love "Fox in Socks" by Dr. Seuss. I think children of all ages can appreciate it. I used it in college for my "Voice and Diction" class. The Instructor loved it, I got an A+ for it.

One of my favorite children's book authors is Robert Munsch. His books are so much fun for kids. The Paper Bag Princess is definitely the best. I also love everything by Dr. Seuss. And Jerry Pallotta's Icky Bug books are great. Kids love them. Actually, all of Jerry Pallotta's books are good. They appeal to a lot of kids, which makes it easy to introduce concepts like numbers, letters, and shapes to kids who don't usually like books.
I grew up reading Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew Books, I also love Hans Christian Andersen and Brothers Grimm Fairytales. But my favorite book was the one my Mom gave me for my 8th birthday..."Arabian Nights". I'm 31 years old and that book is still part of my collection. I also read it from time to time. :-)
