You've got to show effort. Staying after school two or three times a week will get you a passing grade, even if you technically fail. The teacher will think that you busted your *** and tried really hard, and you'll get the sympathy "D".

Studying and attendance are the key parts of success in all classes, especially mathematics. If you attend class and pay attention you will get a base understanding of concepts. If you work on those concepts outside of the classroom through studying, doing your homework the material will likely be more concrete in your understanding. From here it will be much more easy to pass test/quizzes.
