Sylvan centers are franchised. They are accredited and have been in business for a long time. Each center is probably only as good as the people in that center. Check the Better Business Bureau for a center near you to check on any complaints. I think they generally have a satisfactory rating. You might find a private tutor less expensive if you know what you need to work on. If you need a diagnostic test and planned work then they may be the answer.
Sylvan Learning Center is awesome and I encourage everyone that needs help in school to try it. The teachers are really nice and they really do try to help. Also, the first thing they will do is give you a type of test to see how far your and what areas they need to focus on. I would go for it. My niece is in the program right now and loving it. The teachers are a big help and you will see an improvement in your grades pretty quickly which is a good thing since you have your senior year coming up and you want to have high grades if your interested in applying for any scholarships for college. Good Luck!
I teach in an Austin area Sylvan and I would recommend it to anyone. The program is solid, and it's designed so you go at your own pace and retain what you learn. Most of the students seem to enjoy themselves too. (Compared to school anyway.)
If you're willing to give it a try, I think it would really help you out. Do the very best you can on the initial testing because that's how they know what to put in your binder to teach you. If you miss questions you knew how to do, you'll end up with stuff that's "too easy" at the tutoring table.
