Generally you need the following.
A level English, Maths and a National Curriculum Subject other than the above.
The more A levels you have the better really.
There are two main ways to gain TQS Teacher Qualified Status.
Bachelor Course in any area BUT has to be a National Curriculum subject for example Zoology would be no good in Primary.
Then after you conclude your BA or BSc you take a PGCE Post Graduate Certificate of Education.
You can also take a Degree, Bachelors course with TQS already in it so for example you may take a BSc in Mathematics with TQS or a BA in English or History with TQS these are often Four year course BUT the first way I described that being Degree then PGCE would be the same.
I did a BEd a Bachelor of Education which is guaranteed to get what you want in Primary Teaching and is still the most recognised way to get into Primary teaching.
However it did for a while go out of sorts as far as Universities were concerned but it has come back into play more so recently.
I am an Educator and learned how and why children learn and things like Gardner's Theories of Learning Styles and so much more.
The problem with PGCE's are that they are designed to show you how to teach your subject area NOT how children learn or rather WHY they are not learning.
Eventually when you decided to go on this adventure and you may want to take up management you may well need to do a Masters Degree and this can be done in Education, Science and Arts MEd, MSc or MA but is more highly recognised in the Primary sphere if it’s an MEd Masters in Education.
Good luck you will need it Primary Education is by far and away the hardest sphere of Education paper driven, target driven and NO time off during he week for marking etc. In secondary education at least you get free periods and stuff to catch up on paper work. Plus you only have to teach your own subject and not 11 as in Primary.

ps the good thing is too that as a Student at Uni you will love your BEd more than anything and this course guarantees you have one. lol
It depends on your state. In California you can major in almost anything and teach primary school. Most upcoming teachers usually major in Liberal Studies. You have to have a B.A. and a teaching credential (Usually one extra year if you go full-time) Hope this helps.
Do you mean A levels ?. What does mattter more than anything else and please take note is that your degree will allow you to do a PCGE if that is the route you wish to take. First degrees must be in Primary/Secondary taught subjects. You must also have GCSE Maths and Language. My friend speaks fluent French, has an Art degree, PCGE Further Education but cannot get a PCGE primary training post due to the fact she has not got GCSE Maths.
You must do A Levels in subjects taught in the Primary school, otherwise many universities won't accept you to do your teacher training.
