What are the working hours of an elementary, middle and high school teacher?

It all depends on the school! You have quite a range there, but each one, expect to work from about 7:30-8am to about 4-5pm. But that all depends! Elementary schools get out early but have a LOT of prep work (all those arts and crafts projects, copying, all that good stuff the kids are too young to do themselves). and they do have meetings weekly or bi-weekly that could put you there longer. I worked in an elementary school, and it was not surprising to see teachers there till 6pm.

Middle and high school depend on if you teach a zero period (starts at like, 7ish) or how long your last class goes to. Then add the fact that you have to grade all those 5 paged essays you had them write or all that homework, and you could be there very long hours. I knew many teachers who would go away for the weekend, and be grading papers the whole time! Teachers have it way harder than everyone thinks, i guarantee. While true, summer is a time off, keep in consideration that there is summer school... you may not be off the hook just yet.
from like 1 or 2 hours before school starts, to about 30min or an hour after school ends.

for example if school starts at 8:00am... you'd be there at 6 or 7 am before school, then if school ends at 2:30 you'd leave around 3 or 3:30.

don't forget about those shortened days, you have meetings.
Wow! As having worked in all settings, but primarily in elementary..."working hours" could mean MANY things. The amount you have to actually BE at school is about 8 hours a day, unless there is conferences, meetings, etc. However, you have to realize that teachers never leave their job. The are grading papers, writing lesson plans, calling coworkers to discuss a problem, researching for new activities/lessons, and teachers are required to take classes to renew their license. Some student is always in the back of their minds (how best to help, how best to challenge) and thought about everywhere they go.
If "working hours" means when the teacher is working.ALWAYS!
I'm a room mom and substitute teacher who has spent a lot of time in the classroom. The typical school day is from 8-3. Teachers are usually there 45m to an hour before school starts and at least an hour or more after school ends. Lesson planning takes up a lot of time. Sometimes you can squeeze it in while the kids are in specials and lunch, but a lot of lesson planning is done on their own time at home and on weekends. Teachers are also expected to do rotations in things like morning drop off, afternoon dismissal and recess monitors. There are also staff meetings and grade meetings planned after school. Then there are teacher development days and courses they have to take during the summer and on institute days. It's a lot more work and stress than a lot of people realize.

I'd say the average day would be from 7-4, and then a bunch of time at home lesson planning and grading.
I teach middle school. I get to school at 6:45 and leave at 4. Student hours are 8-3. I usually take about an hours worth of work home, and spend 4-6 hours on the weekend grading most weekends.
I teach middle school and I arrive at school at 8:00 and leave at 5:30. Student hours are 8:35 to 4:00. I have a couple of hours of work each night and 4 or 5 hours on Sunday. I try not to do school work on Saturday.
I'm a middle school teacher. In my current district, I contractually work from 8:00 to 3:35, but I go home around 6:00 on most days. At my previous district, I was paid to work from 7:30 to 3:30 and spent several hours working after school.

The amount of time a teacher spends at school really depends on his/her teaching style, personality, and work load. I know good teachers who work to the contract, and I know terrible teachers who practically live at school.
elem...7:50am-3:20pm
I teach high school math. I normally get to school at 6:30, class starts at 7:15. School gets out at 1:45. I normally stay until 2:30 or 3:00, depending on the number of students for extra help, the number of parents to call, or how long staff meetings last. Once I get home I normally have an hour of two of work to do (papers to grade, test to write, normal lesson planning etc...). I teach 5 classes and have 125 students, so there is a decent amount of correcting. Don't forget to factor in time for the professional development workshops you are taking and if you are working towards your next degree (masters, CAGS, PhD, etc...)
