Is there a legal limit to the amount of kids in a classroom?

Question:My freshman highschool class has 51 students! It's ridiculous of twenty kids had no seats so we moved to a massive sized room. Most my classes have about 40-45 kids.

Answers:
The class size limit varies from state to state and also based on ages. Regardless - 51 seems a little high to me.
In the UK the max is 33
nope.

but 51 students in a classroom is crazy. imagine 51 students in a small gymnasium playing basketball hah...

at my middle school there were only 11 people excluding myself in a class.
Oh my god, that is insane. The biggest class i have is like 28.
The only problem is if the room is too small. Other than that, they can cram you all in. Now, it's not something I would recommend, so you might want to complain to the superintendent.
holy cow...my class has a total of 11 people including my self...we share a classroom with the 7th grade (we're in 8th) and the total is still only 26
Your parents need to join with other parents and complain, loudly, to the Superintendent and School Board unless it is only for Home Room.
There are size limits in elementaries but not in high schools, atleast not in Oklahoma. Fifty-one is a huge class, though! My largest has been 28, and I thought that was big.
legal limit, no.

but your teacher has a contract that states specifically how many can be expected after what is called "norm day". Ask your teacher, he/she will know.

When school first starts, schools who are not too good at scheduling sometimes over-schedule classes. They then will spend the next few weeks changing the classes of various students. (this is not the best way to do this, but unfortunately it is common)

My district has norm day one month after school begins. this is the day that the school must comply with the contract they offered the teachers and normalize the classroom counts. (your district may not call it norm day - but it will have something similar)

So - just ask your teacher what admin has said about making the class smaller. You KNOW that teacher has complained already!

good luck to you!
I believe this is mandated by the state.

My cap is 32. Ask your teacher, I'm sure he/she is HIGHLY aware of what the cap is.

Can you transfer into another classroom?
There should be class size limits for regular classes and special ed classes. It varies from district to district but I'm sure it's laid out in the union's contract.
Well, it depends on where you are attending school. Where I taught, our contract limited the class size at all grade levels. High school was rarely over 25. There is a limit in most of the USA for fire code reasons. A class with more than 50 students requires two fire exits, with doors that open outward. A room must also have a minimum of 10 square feet per student, not counting permanent objects like sinks etc.
im not sure what the limit is in the uk, theres nearly always 32 seats, but we had 33 in our english class the year before last, so maybe the limits 33/34ish
