My basketball coach's wife just had their first child. He's taking 2 weeks off of teaching to be with his new son. His plan was to be with his son during the day, and then to come to our basketball practices and coach our games. However, the school board and superindendent have denied his right to continue coaching and said that he has this week to coach, and then he will be replaced. It is half-way through the season and if he's replaced how are we going to finish learning the plays he's taught us? We've grown as a team with his help and without him there to support us, we minus well not even play. The school board has done this because they believe that it's best for us, but today when he told us the news the entire team including our coach was bawling. I don't see how this is the best way to go. Please tell me what you think of the decision and what should be done. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
That coach officially has 2 different jobs with the school district. The problem is that when you take a leave of absence, you are telling the employer that you cannot be on the property at all during your requested time. In the school districts eyes his job as Teacher is much more important than the coaching job. Unfortunately this creates problems for all concerned, the other coaches, the players. But I think that school board is following Federal Law on this one. I am looking for a nice job in a casino but on a cruiser who knows about that?
