Highschool Teachers: What are you looking forwhen you award kids with awards, reccomendations, honors, etc.?

Question:I am going into 9th grade and would like to make an impression...

Answers:
when i went ( i received over 8 of them) they usually look for the people with the two highest grades in the class, or the one who participated the most, or who they feel learned the most.
Effort.doing your very best.I don't look for the top person, but rather the one that improves the most for their own rate of learning.
i try to ignore inappropriate behavior and reward appropriate behavior/

in my case you don't want to be recognized except on paper.

when i get good work, i try to attach a face to the signature, then give them any extra help i can to further their skill level.

i am very unusual in my approach, so don't try to use my model for all teachers.
