I have done some research and it looks like I can expect a serious pay cut, since I haven't worked for a school before. We're talking like almost half...YIKES. However, I want to weigh the long-term benefits as well since I plan to stay in this position for a very long time. This position, by the way, works the same as the teachers salary steps.
So my question is, what are the benefits of working for the school vs. a non-profit or other service organiztion?
So far I know that, obviously, I will have my summers off. I also believe I will get regular, steady pay increases of about $2,000 every year, which will certainly add up.
What else do I need to know?

You'll probably receive better health benefits, pension
The only benefit of working in the school system is the summers off with pay. If you are ever planning on having children, then this would be the best job for you. My mom works in the cafeteria at a elementary school and is home with my brothers and sisters during vacations and no school days.
I hope I can get a job working in a school when my kids are school age. It is worth the minimal pay.
I'd say the pay raise is about 1 K a year. You get July off, not the summer. others can take vacation days throughout the year. If I were you, I'd look elsewhere.
