I want to teach Freshman Geography?

Question:I want to teach 9th grade geography as my career. I am currently going to school online for my associates in general studies. What else will I need to take to meet my career goal?

Answers:
Geography is a course in social studies so you will need a 4 year degree in social studies education and to pass a social studies exam in order to receive certification to teach. This usually qualifies you to teach social studies in grades 6 - 12.

Most of my college courses were various social studies classes: history, sociology, political science, psychology, etc. You also take some education courses and student teach for 10 weeks when you complete your college courses.

As a 6th grade geography teacher myself, my advice is to transfer to a 4 year college in education now to begin working on your education requirements in addition to the other social studies courses. If you wait to finish your general studies associates, it may cost you more money because not all of your courses may not transfer to a teacher education program. Plus, tuition is always going up so it's better to do it now rather than later!
pass the teachers exam and get certified or continue with college b/c your gonna need more than a associates to teach.
