Is anybody learning to play the piano?

Question:I am and I find it very rewarding but also very hard.

What type of styles should I progress towards?

Answers:
When learning the piano at the start, it can be very difficult, and you seem to go for ages without getting anywhere.

I started playing aged 5, and had a tutor for five years.

My father was a concert pianist and church organist, so you can imagine the pressure I went through !

Learn the basics, your scales and the like, then progress from there.

Do not try and rush things, you will have the ability to play or not. But if the latter, do not worry.

At the end of the day, you are you, play what you want, in any style you want.

I answered a question a few days ago, with regard to your question, and I gave this advice/suggestion;

Turn out the lights, sit at your piano, in total darkness, and let your fingers and ears guide you. You will get a feel for what you really want to play.

Further to your question;
What type of styles should I progress towards?

My answer would have to be, YOUR OWN.

May I wish you all the best, take plenty of advice, get plenty of practise, but above all, be yourself.
I was learning and I found it hard but persevere - it's worth it
i am.i play romantic, baroqe, contemperary,and jazz. It kinda sucks, im good but i dont like it. Im only playing for my grandma.
No but as my daughter loves music I am hoping to enrol her once she turns 3.. she might hate it though in which case will ditch that idea! lol
