someone like u
Emo means emotional it usually refers to someone who is depressed
Officially, emo is short for "emotional". It's very much like goth, but more "i hate myself" than "i hate the world". Emo art (like poetry, stories, drawings, etc) is very dramatic, and self-centered on how much your life sucks.
Emo kids are stereotypically like goth (dress in black, depressing, etc.) but don't have to be. They just have to have that "everything sucks, I hate myself" kinda mentality.
Emo (pronounced /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a somewhat ambiguous slang term most frequently used to describe or refer to a fashion, style, or attitude linked to post-hardcore. Emo may also describe emo music or a general emotional state (as in to "feel emo"). It is also (sometimes pejoratively) used to identify someone who fits a particular emo stereotype or category or someone who is overly-emotional. The term's definition is the subject of debate.

It's short for "emotional." It just means your "deep" and "sensitive." It tends to mean you are "brooding" and it is usually the oppisite of "preppy" (which means "peppy," "optimistic" and sometimes "girly")
Ok could I have used anymore quotation marks in my answer? =)
Do you remember the girl in Breakfast Club that made snow from her dandruff (played by Ally Sheedy).
She exlempified emo.
Okay, all the previous answers sucked, so I'll help you out. Originally, emo was used to designate a type of metal music with emotional lyrics. After a few years, the term started to shift.
Suddenly, it was used to describe semi-punk rock music bands like Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, Saves the Day, and even Weezer; basically, it started getting fixed onto anything with emotional lyrics. That was about five years ago.
Now, however, the new breed of high school kids have switched the label to mean semi-goth kids who listen to depressing lyrics and blah blah. What's hilarious, though, is this: these kids have no idea about the origin of the word, and if you ask them for examples of what being "emo" is or what an "emo" band is, they have no clue. The word is just being applied now to anybody who's whiney or depressed.
Vote me down for this one if you want, but it's right.
