NO. PTA's were a good idea in the beginning, but now it has come down to being in 'cliques' and who's who.
All they do now is raise money for school, they have gotten away from their original purpose.
Just joining isn't the key. You have to participate. They vote on alot of items during the school year. If you don't vote, it won't make a difference.

Yes! As a teacher I value the PTA in my school, and most are an everyday part of our school community. You will be right in the middle of all school decisions. Parents who care are key to a childs success.
Joining is good but I agree that participating is even better. Our school has a wonderful PTA and they are always doing great things for the students. They sponsor assemblies, popcorn days, book fairs, fun family nights, and birthday books for all the students to name a few activities. The kids whose parent(s) participate in the PTA are so proud and often help out before school starts if they can. It's a great organization and lets the kids know their parents care about them and their place of learning.
