Question:I have taken and passed the Florida Subject Area Exam for K-6 and now have to take the General Knowledge test. I am a little concerned about the GK test b/c I know two people that didn't pass it on thier first time. If you have taken it please let me know if the GK was any harder/ different then the SAE. Thanks for your help!
Answers:
Most teachers I know have had trouble with the GK , especially the math portion! The math is at a much higher level than what a K-6 teacher would need to know to teach a class (algebra, geometry, etc.). This was true even years ago when the CLAST was part of the certification process. If you've been out of school for a while, you will definitely need to take a refresher course on the math. What makes it so much harder is that we don't use that type of math everyday so we get quite rusty.
