Well not so much...they did take over Cingular and Bell Atlantic but look who their competitor is...Verizon Wireless. Verizon has taken over a number of companies they over the last year joined another sort of unknown company, (even myself the name escapes me at the moment cellular one?) to some people. Its a dog eat dog world out in cell phone country; who can scarf up the most relevant cell phone towers for their customers. Pretty soon it's going to be one pay as you go company and one maybe two actual cell phone companies who are are going to 'fight' for the lowest rates. I used to have Sprint which just recently got taken over by Embarq 'landline' meaning they were the ones providing the house phone service, soon there after will probably be the main company. There probably won't be a Sprint ever again and no i really don't think they are doing so well...I switched to Cingular which just over the last couple of months had switched to At&t (if I had known they were gonna do that I would have waited) but now I have a Cingular phone that says welcome to At & t. My service is decent considering I work in the dead zone.
I will complain about my service though re-reading the question again (at first I thought it said running) but honestly my service has declined since they switched. I get barely get one bar where I used to get at least 2 when sending messages which is why a lot of people have cell phones anymore...young people anyway. Even when I'm making a important phone call; today for example someone in which I was talking to was still there while I thought they had disconnected...I thought that Cingular was the one for the fewest dropped calls...it may have not been dropped but I'll be damned if I could hear what the person on the other line was saying. So yea I do think they have ruined them, they used to be good a few years ago (like 5 or so when they had more competitors) but now I'm wishing my contract was up and that I could switch to Verizon the company who will be so big they don't even know who you are or even care for that matter...but however, they have service where I work lol. It's sad but true.
You know, this really depends on where you are. Verizon is the service to have in New York, while in Florida, it's Sprint or T-Mobile.
It also depends on whether you're into tech or not. Verizon is pretty good on keeping up to date, but you can't deny that T-Mobile and the Blackberry (aka Crackberry) are hot items.
And what about the dang i-Phone?!?!?! Apple got lucky as the service provider is for the i-Phone. This is a large reason a bunch-o-people have AT&T.
To answer your question, no, AT&T is not running out the other companies. I had about ten dropped calls in the 3 years I've had Verizon Wireless. Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T have all dropped my calls at least a hundred times more than Verizon. And dealing with a number of services over the years, I can safely say for the New York Metro area that Verizon is # 1. In customer service too.
