What is king's disease?

Question:I know it relates to the thumb but I don't know what it is.

Answers:
It was always TB of the neck glands
i guess its a hyperflexible thumb that becomes prone to dislocation at the metatcarpal joint . do get it confirmed though :)
Scrofula - tuberculosis of the neck lymph glands
i think its Gout!
Kings disease is another name for gout.causing painful inflamation of joints caused by a build up of uric acid...thought to be caused by high living and drinking red wine and port...hence the name.
Oh and I thought it was Syphillis .. you learn something every day *G*
The only complaint I know affecting a thumb (and/or fingers) is a "trigger thumb" which is caused by inflammation of the fibrous sheath that encloses the tendon of the affected digit, accompanied by localized swelling of the tendon.
It actually locks the finger or thumb in a bent position.
The only other thing I can think of is "kings evil" which was once a name used for scrofula.
Hopefully, a medical person will pick up your question and be able to answer it.
The Disease Of Kings - Gout.

It has been referred to, maybe a touch inaccurately, as "The disease of kings and the king of diseases."

Gout is essentially a form of rheumatic arthritis characterized by recurrent episodes of joint inflammation.
The pain and swelling of gout are caused by uric acid crystals that deposit in some joints, most notably the big toe, but the disease can also strike the knee, ankle, foot, hand, wrist and elbow.

There was a couple of Kings of England that succumbed to thrombosis in the 20th century, and they probably had a touch of the Gout too, which is all that Port wine they are 'forced' to drink. Hope this helps you out, Tony M

It's an enlargement of the lymph nodes in the neck esp., -----called "king's evil," because it was believed that the touch of a king's hand would cure it.
