Why on a compass rose do north/south always come first before east of west when looking at like NE or SW?

It is like this because North and South are the main poles and must go first then East and West. Just to digress off the subject, the Earth's magnetic field is gradually reversing itself.
When more specific directions are given, they are labled as NNW, SSE, etc., or, North by northwest, south by south east... etc...

i don't also know why. maybe because people just follow tracks. let's start the other way and see if people would follow. 20 degrees Westsouth and 10 degrees eastnorth...
NSEW are the cardinal points of the compass. N=0 as it is the main magnetic pole, it would be confusing if it said follow a bareing of 45 less than 90. Because North is magnetic it is useful to use this as a reason to put north first.
