She was definitely very real and it is not unlikely that she actually sewed the flag. She was an upholsterer by trade and the Ross family owned a church pew next to the Washington family and people tend to do business with people they know.

Betsy Ross is a real, historical person. Her role in designing the flag is overstated even if she was involved at all. The Washington family coat of arms consisted of your usual shield, the top third of which was blue with one white star. The bottom two thirds had three vertical stripes, red-white-red. Turn the whole thing 90 degrees and does that begin to look familiar?

Who knows? None of us were there - They tell us she is real, and there are records of her existing, but does that really prove anything? I think she was real...here is a site saying she was real...but who really knows.

Ms. Betsy Ross is a real individual who did sew the first flag of the United States. It's really a disservice to her legacy for anyone to make a rumor that she was a myth, in my humble opinion.
Nicole i have no clue how on earth you would have been able to get that picture as Betsy Ross died shortly after the first permanent photograph was taken...
The sewing is a myth, not yet proven. She was a real person, but I do not believe she sewed the first American flag, nor do i support people thinking she was a genius. She did not think of a plan for the flag whatsoever. It is said she simply took the plans and sewed.
