Well, there are lots of books written by people who must have talked to people who knew her. That's why she's so famous, because she WAS completely deaf and blind. She learned to communicate through the sense of touch.
She was not born blind and deaf; it was not until nineteen months of age that she came down with an illness described by doctors as "an acute congestion of the stomach and the brain," which could have possibly been scarlet fever or meningitis. The illness did not last for a particularly long time, but it left her deaf and blind.
In 1888, Keller attended the Perkins School for the Blind. In 1894, Keller and Sullivan moved to New York City to attend the Wright-Humason School for the Deaf and Horace Mann School for the Deaf. In 1896, they returned to Massachusetts and Helen entered The Cambridge School for Young Ladies before gaining admittance, in 1900, to Radcliffe College, where Standard Oil magnate Henry Huttleton Rogers paid for her education. In 1904, at the age of 24, Keller graduated from Radcliffe magna *** laude, becoming the first deaf and blind person to graduate from a college.
Well, she was born with those senses, and lost them to some disease. But why is it hard to believe she was completely deaf and blind?

She is/was not the only person who is/was deaf & blind. There are many other cases.

What's so hard to believe about it? Many people are deaf & blind. I read a book about Helen Keller & saw the movie about her.
Yeah, it's sad to know that, but she has done so many waonderful things although she was handicapped. They did a movie about her, I believe Melissa Gilbert from Little House on the Prairie was in it. You can google Helen Keller, or look on Wikipedia.org
