To the first answerer: She wasn't serious about mailing the thing. It was sarcasm. And I believe a little sarcasm never hurts, and that people who can't take it will really suffer on this planet.
To the person posting the Q: No, I don't think that was fair. You made it clear that piracy isn't right.
Yes, it was fair. The question that you responded to DID violate community guidelines but your answer did too. Offering to mail something to the questioner is personal communication. Sorry.
I think you could have been less... confrontational. But you were right to remind the user of the rules, and also to report them. I report any user who is asking for illegal serials, and I would urge the Yahoo! community to as well.

You didn't answer his question, you should've just reported him and that would've been that. Fair, NO. But from Yahoo's view you both went against rules. (perhaps he is unaware that what he was asking was illegal)
The way I see it, you shouldn't have been sarcastic, when this was a clear violation. Use your wit on other topics. Just by cold reading, it may have seemed that you know the code, but chose at this time not to send....I am just saying it could read that way.
As another poster said, the person asking did not realize they were doing anything wrong. You simply needed to say, questions such as yours are not allowed, please review guidelines. They should have known that they should delete their own question.
