The blood consists of 3 main components, which are:

-Red blood cells. It has 42 days shelf life.
-Platelets. It has five days shelf life.
-Plasma. It has one year shelf life when frozen.

As far as I know blood components will be separated and stored individually.

It is granted that no tolerence in these matters, expiry dates are red lines after which the blood components cannot be transfered to patients.
