During the Civil War, What was the Naval break though that gave the US the worlds best Navy?

Question:I know the answer but I want to see how many answers i get.
Well this lead the way to the modern Navy.

Answers:
The construction of the USS Monitor. When she was completed, the world's wooden warship fleet was instantly obsolete.

By the way, the CSS Virginia (ex USS Merrimac) and the submarine H.L. Hunley were Confederate craft.
Submarine? I remember the Union had the Monitor from history class.
that's when we invented the armored ships Merrimack and Monitor. I can't give sources but this is common history. when those two ships fought it marked the end of the wooden ship era and the start of the modern navy.

Vin
Production of the Ironclads (Monitor/Merrimac aka Virginia). No source...just seem to remember that kinda stuff.
i think it was the submarine (monito, merrimac, hunley) and the steam ship
That would be the steam powered revolving turret on the USS Monitor, England and France had Ironclads before we did however with this invention it paved the way for wooden ships to be more obsolete than they were before
Ironclad ships like the Monitor? (That's a guess)
armoured revolving turret is the answer!
