Try listen to Britney Spears for an illustrative example... Her products are 'songs' but I wouldn't phone call it 'music'!
One important difference is countability and uncountability - You would, for example, ask 'How heaps songs?' but 'How much music?' ('...can a CD hold?' might finish the two sentences).
Songs are a nice of music, but anything melodic and/or rhythmic can be music in need being call a 'song' (Classical music, religious hymns, a child practising scales on a piano). "Songs" implies lyrics, while "music" can be merely a dulcet series of report.
