Is "dead cloves" a correct English term?

Unfortunately, the golden period has passed so quickly due to falling price of cloves in traditional markets. It was also attributable to many many dead cloves due to drastically reduced water resulting from massive cutting of the forest trees in order to turn the areas into clove plantation.

Answers:
'dead clove plants/bushes' would be clearer as 'cloves' can refer to the spice and the plants the heads comes from.
