Christmas 2008.
Well, I think we all use the terminology in different ways. This Xmas is Xmas 2007 and next Xmas is Xmas 2008, as far as I am concerned that is correct.
I'd say 2007
Christmas 2008
I would say 2007 becasue its now coming
2008 - but it does rather depend on the time of year that you say it. I would say that anything up to march means this year and anything beyond that means next year!
It's always on 25 December.
The next one is 25 December 2007
I would say 2007 as it is coming up/yet to happen
SORRY NO INFORMATION
"Next" Christmas will be happening on 25th December 2007. On that day it will then be "this" Christmas and "next" Christmas will be in 2008.
I have this argument loads, next to me is next xmas 2008. I would say for xmas this year this xmas.
Next Christmas is Christmas 2007. It can't be 2008 as that is the christmas after next. The dictionary definition of next is: Immediately following, as in time, order, or sequence: next week; next year; the next item on the list.
Confusing innit, lol.
This xmas ia 2007 and next xmas is 2008, unless you are referring to next xmas when said just after the last xmas, then it is this xmas coming if that makes sense ha!
how about avoiding the discussion, and just using the year?
if somebody said to me "next Christmas", I'd ask them which one they mean exactly? cause I would rather think about next year's christmas then about this year's
The english language can be strange, if you want to be pedantic then next christmas is 2008. But if you were in a ordinary conversation mode and referred to next christmas most would presume that it is 2007.
If "this Christmas" has occured in your current conversation, then the next Christmas would be in 2008, else the next Christmas is Christmas-2007.
In this case, I believe it's all relative to the time the question is asked. Since we are closer to this Christmas than last Christmas we'll call Christmas 2007, this Christmas. Thus, Christmas 2008 will be next Christmas. If you were to throw in the word "the" like the person above me then it would be more clear and "the next" Christmas would be Christmas 2007.
You could argue this either way - it's the same as "next Tuesday", especially if you say that on a Monday or Sunday. Both answers could be right, it's ambiguous.
2007 would be THIS CHRISTMAS
2008 would be NEXT CHRISTMAS
Christmas 2007 as it is the next one as it has not happened yet
the christmas that will come next 25th dec 2007.2008 would be the christmas after next christmas.
When would you like to receive your NEXT lot of Christmas presents, 2007 or 2008 ?
Next Christmas refers to 2008...and this Christmas for 2007
Next christmas is the next one, therefore it's 2007, 2008 would be christmas after next.
I am always having this argument with my husband. This Christmas is 2007 whereas Next Christmas will be 2008 as we are in THIS year not NEXT year.
Since Christmas only comes once a year, unlike the days of the week, I would say that 'this Christmas' would be referring to Christmas 2007 and next Christmas would be 2008. Because if Christmas 2006 is already over and Christmas 2007 is soon it sounds more correct to say this Christmas.
We do that in Arabic as well, we say this Eid for the one coming and next Eid for the 'next one' as in next year, not the year we're in.
So it's related to how often the event occurs and how close - in time - it is.
It actually also applies to the days of the week if you think of of it, like when someone says 'next Saturday' people ask 'which one, this one or the coming?'
After answering your question I feel even more confused!
2007
