its still a hand me down regardless of age of recipient lol
hand-me-down
A "gift." "Hand-me-down" refers to the trickle-down effect of clothing, toys, and other items through a set of siblings (or other associated children) as they grow older, not simply to refer to anything given to anyone younger than you. "Hand-me-up" is not a phrase used for anything, really, unless you happen to be standing at the foot of a ladder. If you're simply passing on something that's used but still useful to a friend or family member, it's just a gift.
