Is 'Nicer' a word?

Question:My dad has always told me that 'nicer' wasn't a word, and I have always taken it as fact (a professor of english told him, or something!).
When looking for the word, I can't find it on google definitions or any reputable dictionary sites, so is 'Nicer' a word?

For the record, I don't think so, it just doesn't sound right!
