Why is lisp, spelt with an 's'??

Question:if people with a lisp carnt pronouce the lettter 's' why iz there an 's' in the word of the condition ??

The word lisp probably comes from people imitating a lisp. Just about anyone saying lisp sounds like they have one.
I don't know, good idea. Why isn't it called a lithp?
