Look mainly on the sides and diagonally.
If I get stuck I always scan line by line looking for the first letter then the second so on. if you are really bad then it might take a while but it works.
you could check out an algebra website online for a list of different words and some will even give definitions or examples
It also helps to look for the words with the less common letters. For example if you have works with "q" or "x" or "j" they may be easier to find. Remember that some of the words could be from right to left or from the bottom to the top, not just written the usual way.
