Is stupider a word? A kid made fun of me after saying it but I think more stupid sounds worse than stupider...

Question:My friend (well not really he's a jerk and i don't even like him) told me that "more stupid" is the correct way to say it, but i looked online and got mixed reviews saying that sometimes if it's a one syllable word u have to use more/most but sometimes if it's more than one syllable and sounds normal than you can say "er/est". I just don't know and i wanna prove him wrong cause he's a douche. I think that stupider sounds perfectly fine, more stupid souds...well...stupid to me haha.

Answers:
Sorry, but the correct form is "more stupid" -- that is, if you want to be a stickler.... and you don't have to be if you don't wanna!

Your own research bears this out: One syllable adjectives take "-er/-est". Adjectives with more than one syllable take more/most (eg., more beautiful). There are exceptions to the one syllable rule, such as happy (happier). Unfortunately, stupid isn't one of them. Having said that, there are those who use "stupider", albeit incorrectly.

So, if you really, REALLY want to win the argument, you might do it based on the fact that "stupider" is coming into increasingly common usage and some would regard it as a part of the English lexicon.
