Why do so many "loose" things that they really meant to "lose"?

Question:As in " I told her to "loose" the attitude. It seems to be a common grammatical/spelling error that even the more erudite folks on this forum make. Is it a simple case of finger stutter on the keyboard for the letter "o"?

Answers:
You old codger you caught me. Yeah! That's one of my failings and I'm probably the one you are referring to. I hate to get caught. I tell people, "I never make a mistake. I thought I did once but I was wrong." Now I'm loose. If I get enough looses I might be at a loss. Oh, hang my head in shame complete with a loose noose. Tripped, trapped and shipped to the far East. This is my evening of entrapment. That makes twice for tonight. Curses!
sure thats what i would say!
Nope, people are really that stupid. It's for the same reason why people spell "separate" as "seperate," or don't know the different usages for where, we're, wear, were, or their, there, and they're. People don't care enough to use correct spelling or grammar, which gives me a feeling of superiority. So thanks morons! You make me feel good!
I'm an English major, and the grammar here annoys me very much. That's why I use proper grammar in all my answers.
I've been wondering myself. And I'm always careful with these words. I guess it's because loose looks/sounds more like lose than lose actually does...er, that's confusing but you know what I mean.
Here is the answer in three words:

Hooked on Phonics.
That's annoying, but the one that I seem to be seeing more of is "dose" when they seem to mean "does."
